Hair Loss - the root of the problem

In its September issue, hairdressing trade magazine, Salon Business turned to Mark Glenn co-founder, Mark Sharp for advice on helping hairdressers deal with clients suffering from hair loss.

The three-page article examined the causes of hair loss and how best to deal with them.

"Most people are lucky enough to have a healthy head of hair, but for those who suffer from hair loss it is emotionally devastating", said Mark in the feature. "And while society is accustomed to men losing their hair, for women or children it can be a different story.

He went on to say, "Chemical treatments including dyes, tints, bleaches, straighteners and permanent waves rarely damage hair.

However, if applied incorrectly, hair can become weak and break. Hair can also break if a solution is left on too long or if two procedures are done on the same day and if bleach is applied to previously bleached hair, it can break off. If hair becomes brittle from chemical treatments, it's best to stop until the hair has grown out."

We also provided the magazine with a glossary of hair loss reasons and conditions and it's hoped that our advice will help hairdressers deal more sympathetically with hair loss, as well as point them to sources of help and advice for their clients.
