The Mark Glenn studio is situated in Lancashire Court on London's famous
New Bond Street, right in the fashionable centre of one of the greatest
cities in the world.
History
Our charming studio resides in a listed building steeped in historical
significance, first developed in the 1720's. From the original oak flooring
in our ground floor reception and lounge to the wonky walls in the basement
work area, the building's history is evident.
The shape of the Lancashire Court site - today, home to around 9 businesses
- is dictated by the River Tyburn which still flows under Avery Row.
In the 13th century, water for the City of London was supplied from
here.
Some of the famous people who've lived in the area are, in New Bond
Street, Lord Nelson and - a few doors away - Lady Hamilton. Lancashire
Court includes what was the home of composer George Frederick Handel
(he wrote "Messiah" here) and also, the lodgings of Jimi Hendrix,
with both of these homes earning historic "blue plaques". Handel's
house, where he lived for 36 years, has been restored to its original
glory and made into an impressive museum dedicated to his life and works.
Nearby
Whether you're visiting on your own or bringing a friend or partner
with a few hours to kill, you'll be spoilt for choice with things to
do nearby.
Apart from the exclusive designer shops and boutiques of New Bond Street,
we're also a stone's throw from South Molton Street with it's modern
fashions and shoe shops along an enchanting pedestrianised walkway.
Claridges
Hotel is round the corner and both Oxford Street and Regent Street
are a couple of minutes walk in either direction. And, the likes of
Berkeley Square, Hyde Park, Soho and The
Ritz Hotel are also nearby.
In Lancashire Court itself, you'll find the celebrity haunts of the
Hush
and Rocket restaurants and bars. Next door to Mark Glenn is the unique
Elemis Day Spa, frequented by royalty and stars of stage and screen
alike.
The ultra-cool Fenwicks department store is practically opposite, and
you'll find a plethora of coffee bars, pavement cafés, pubs and
restaurants in the vicinity.
